ableton live with Korg Triton - bank settings/etc - MIDI

I just got a Korg Triton and would like to integrate it into my ableton live setup. However, the bank/program settings in ableton's midi clips don't consistently accurately control the settings on the triton. Triton Bank Map is set to General Midi.

Korg offers some sort of utility for making this work with Cubase & Sonar but nothing for live.

Is there anything I can do to make this easier? How are you guys controlling multiple MIDI hardware units from ableton and getting the correct banks/programs to play?

If I have to use the Triton's onboard sequencer I will shoot myself!!! JK, nobody needs to call suicide watch, but please help me with any feedback or ideas you guys have.

Thanks!

Good luck, Pablo, I wish i could help.

I think that's abominable. The first and most obvious thing a sequencer should be able to do is to send bank/patch changes to any and all hardware and software devices. There must be a damn good reason why people have so much trouble with this.

Two possible workarounds

Firstly Pablo , this annoys me too.

There are tow wys to get around this ( a little).

1) To change from General Midi to use BANK A of Trition :-

Go to global triton settings, Basic Settings , system PREF.
Here you can set the bank from GM ot KORG.

Now any bank changes in Ableton will use BANK A

2)

To use 16 different sounds in Ableton from the Triton , go into Sequencer mode on the trition and edit the sounds there.

There SHOULD be a way for Ableton to pick up an .INS file (which contains Triton sound definitions. If I find one I will let you know.

Have you guys considered a program like MidiQuest or Unisyn editor/librarians running as a VST for this purpose?
