hi
i need some tips and some of your experience about building my own live library and have the best recordings settings ; i have a pb 1.67 ghz 80go running Live 6 with an external Lacie HD and a metric halo sound card.
i'm wondering first about setting the folder for my recordings , i have a ton of vinyls that i want to record in Live but where could i set the sample folder ? i heard many different advices about that , i'd like to set my root folder on the external HD , and then organising my library with sounds types : old tracks , house tracks , funk tracks , beats , snares , basses ect ....
then i'm wondering about the recordings settings : my Metric halo recommand to record at -06 db for best results but in the Live clip screen the sample shape is very small , about the half of the Live clip , the best isn't to have a wave form covering up the whole screen without clipping is it ?
the best is to turn up the volume with my Metric halo mixing board or with Live ?
any help and expereince shared would be great , i used to record on hardware samplers for years but now doing the whole thing with a laptop ... i'm just like a baby playing with a new toy !
best

i was wondering about the simpler utility too , 'cause a classic audio file don't need anything to be edited so what's the interest ? lfo's more editing ...?
session screen is better for recording or depends of what we're doing : recording 1 track or multiple while launching Live clips etc ...

1. your recordings could be wherever u would like them to be,regardless of where the live library is....
2.It's recommended your temp live folder would be on a fast hd...
3. to see how much db you're peaking at..view the session while recording...
a . waves CAN be resized to fit the whole screen just resize the clip view... (drag the bottom upwards)
b. enlarge the channel's vu meter by draging... soon enough you'll see numbers apearing and a "peak" level indicator .
4. simpler is a small sampler with cool though limited features... lFO is for modulating the effects in simpler to make the filter move etc.
live is one heck of a toy ...HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK!

hey Mr 3 dot
first thank you so much for you fast , quick simple and efficient answers !
i have to work on those points now , i rode so many posts about organising and managing the Live library , i think i'm ok with that !
but the recordings settings .... i'm not confortable with that , i saw the option where you can resize your clips volume , very clever !!!
but i rode one day in a manual that when u record anything , if it's not loud enough your recorder record too much silence so that's why i'm looking for the best recordings settings , to get a very good sound just before clipping or distortion, know what i mean ???
With Live is it ok if you monitor and then record your sounds just before clipping and the Vu meter become red ?
i just finished reading the whole manual , thanks for the advice but as you maybe notice i asked thoses questions because there is nothing about recordings tips , as saving etc in the manual ... ???? that's wh i ask you those questions and i read many of your previous posts ... very useful though ....
thanks again !

I don't quite get it; Are you asking us how to create folders on your hard drive? I have the same type of system (albeit built and expanded over years) and I just... create the folders and move my samples there with a mouse in the explorer of winXP...

no creating folders and organising files is ok , it's just the way of moving samples and organising the whole thing . is there a way to tell live where to save a specific clip instead of each time move it whitin the explorer ?
the asd file is really useful ?
last thing , when i record in the main Live window , Live always records the samples , even if i don't want to keep it , ?????? so when i check after the folder i have 6 or 7 audio files and i don't know which one is the final one .
