Just bought a used Monomachine SFX-6, and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm seriously stoked. I am about to burst waiting for it. Curious who else is rocking the Mono along with Live, and what you have to say about it.

since i got my elektron gear (monomachine & machinedrum) i haven't touched live.

Yeah, you know, I'm totally looking forward to syncing up my Mono and MD and just rocking outside the box. Of course, everything will still end up in Live, but the more work you can do outside the box, the better, IMO.

how are you guys with elektron gear running your audio interface configurations? Are you using the master outs only, or are you taking advantage of the 6 outs and running them to your audio interface? I'm interested in selling Komplete to buy machinedrum or monomachine, but I dont have an audio interface at the moment, leaving me with just the master out to the onboard sound.

I rarely ever use the individual outs on my Machinedrum because they bypass the master fx buss, which is one of my favorite parts of the machine. I love the MD rhythm delay and gated reverb. And I usually spend a ton of time programming my beats on the Machinedrum with parameter locks and all that, so by the time I dump it to Live, it is pretty much exactly how I want it. Sometimes I will throw some crazy Ableton fx on it, but most of the time the only thing I'll add is a little more compression to get it ridiculously bangin. This is on top of the compression from within the MD itself, which is more than adequate.

I will say this, no matter what, if you get some elektron gear, you will not regret it. The MD is the most amazingly expressive drum machine. I have had mine for a few years now, and I still find out new tricks it can pull on a weekly basis. Love, love, love it. Can't wait for my Mono to arrive.

I don't use the extra outs on my Machinedrum either. Like all drum machines and grooveboxes, they always botch it by not including the effects on the seperate outs. Oh well, the stereo out works fine for me.

i've got an sfx60, and theres been a couple times i wish i'd got the sfx6! still, the 60 can be moved about a lot easier! awesome machines with really unique sounds - you're going to love it!

Yeah, the portability factor of the 60 would be cool, but I wanted that joystick and keyboard. Plus, I quite like the uniqueness of the 6.

is it possible to recreate a sort of parameter lock inside an impulse rack for example

I am saving for a Machinedrum and Monomachine, because I want to get away from computer based writing. I'll still keep Live for gigs, remixing, and collaborating with people I know that also use Live. But, frankly, I am getting tired of computer based creativity.

Anyways to answer the question ... I don't have any Elektron gear yet, but as I understand 'parameter locks' they are essentially a way of having specific events happen on a per-step basis within a looped sequence. For example: every time the kick plays on beat 2, the pitch increases by 4 semitones etc. I think you can record this in to the MD or MnM 'live'?

So, I guess the equivalent in Live would be automation?

I had sfx6 and regret selling it, it's an amazing instrument

That's what I was kinda thinking - automation of one form or another.

Parameter lock is different, it "locks" a certain machine in a value that you created, for example pitch of bass drum, and that doesn't change when you tweak master pitch
Automation is more like recording a movement of a pot or a slider, that can be easily overwritten, the lock "locks" it, so it can't be changed...

Parameter Locks are 'automation' in a very general way, but drawing automation lines on a grid could never compare to the tactile nature of using the Elektron machines. There are no other instruments on Earth with such a seamless marriage of sequencer and synth/sampler. And then you throw in Slides... oh man.
