Hi
When using ableton live lite 4 with my m-audio audiophile firewire I get some annoying chips and bleeps that should obviously not be there. When using the onboard sound card, I do not notice that problem .


Here’s a description of the gear I’m using:

Laptop pentium IV with windows xp
2,5 Ghz
512ram
Pcmcia interface with firewire

m-audio audiophile firewire



Guys at M-audio tech support said that it should be some kind of IRQ problem but they didn’t explain how I should proceed to solve my problem.

Any tips on how to configure my ableton to function correctly with my m-audio soundcard?

1. are the noises also happening when the laptop is running on batteries?
2. what is the brand and model of your laptop?
3. if you know, what is the chipset brand?

that should get us somewhere....

The laptop is always running on current and is connected on a diferent plug
than the sound card.

my laptop is a Aspire 1406LC with an Intel pentium 4 chipset.

I've had the same issue (Both with a Acer Travelmate 8000 and a HP NX9420). I've narrrowed it down to be a problem with common ground.
In my case it has always been the laptop's power supply that caused the problem.
I've only experienced it when direct monitoring my triton through the Audiophile's inputs, AND the laptop running on mains.

I resolved it by always connecting the power for my laptop to an outlet that's not grounded, and everything else on grounded outlets (I know, the audiophile psu is not grounded).

I haven't done the same test with bus power, because I'm using the onboard 4 pin fw connector on my laptop.

having the laptop and soundcard connected on different plugs doesn't make a difference.
try running your laptop on battery, and check if you still have the noises.
if you don't, itmeans it's aground loop problem.

if it happens at random intervals this is for sure a m-audio problem..

I experienced the same thing with both the audiophile firewire and pci versions..
I know at least 3 other people who experience the same thing as well..

the m-audio helpdesk didn't have a solution..
that's why I sold my m-audio cards..

check pcmcia card chipset it must be from texas , nec or via .
others do not work
if you are using windows xp pro with service pack 2 there is an update for the firewire called KB885222.
