MIDI sync problem..can anyone help?

I am trying to sync my MacBook Pro with my iBook. Both running Live 6. The iBook is sending a MIDI out through an Oxygen8v2, which feeds into a Firewire 410 connected to my MacBook. I seem to have all of the appropriate switches on & have read the Live Manual...but I cannot get the MacBook to slave properly. If anyone has a similar setup, I'd appreciate some troubleshooting help.

thanks

what appropriate switches do you have set?

MIDI ports (options-preferences-midi)
SLAVE - MIDI IN SYNC set to ON
Master - MIDI OUT SYNC set to ON

Connect a midi cable from out to in (mater to slave)
Hit the EXT button at the top left corner of the Slave's Live window.

Hit the spacebar on the Master, both will start and stop together and follow tempo changes.

Don't enable more in the midi preferences than you need.
There's a little triangle next to each midi port that opens a menu, make sure both are using the same midi clock type, etc.

Yeah, those switches are all on. Both on MIDI Clock setting. The LED next to the EXT button on the Slave lights up orange (I am assuming this means it is sending MIDI data), but nothing is happening on the Slave

Which indicator lights up? You made a typo somewhere. There's two. Top one is incoming midi, below that is outgoing.

Yeah I did..sorry. The bottom LED next to EXT on the Master lights up. Nothing on the Slave.

I tried getting the MIDI setup to work in Reason on the Slave & that doesn't seem to work either. So now I know that it isn't in Live on the Slave..its another problem.

Cool, so what's happening is that your Oxygen8v2 is blocking the midi clock. Under healthy operation (with only Sync out on that master and only Sync IN on the Slave) the bottom indicator on the Master lights to show it's sending midi and the top indicator on the Slave lights to show it's receiving midi.

Check your Oxygen manual and see if there's some mode you can put it in. I had that exact problem with my BCR.

MIDI OX (PC) or C6 are great free midi tools for monitoring midi traffic.

Thanks for the help. I got really angry at the 8...I have hated the thing since the day I bought it...bad power plug, bad usb cable plug, now this. I just figured out how to attach over a MIDI network on OSX.

thanks again for your help

let me start by saying I didn't read everything above, but maybe you should try getting the ibook to be the slave, and let the macbook pro be the master...
