Needle advice please.

I am currently using an Ortofon Electro needle to record vinyl through an ART DJ Pre II record pre-amp, into my focusrite saffire pro.

The problem is that the needle is 8mv and the pre-amp won't go down low enough so on very loud records I get clicks of digital distortion at the loudest points such as the kick.

What I need is a new needle that is the same audio quality, or better audio quality but which only outputs at say 6mv. I think my information is accurate in what I need, although I know little about needles so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

Steve.

Steve,
If you already tried "recording" at a lower volume or switching to line in rather than phono, All I can recommend is some budget shure or stantons.
the websites usually post Mvw's on a specs page.
I use a freeware program called: Audacity. works well but you have to master the end product due to excessive recording hiss.
Goodluck.

Seems that buying a new pre-amp sorted it.

The one I had before was obviously just not very good.

You'll have to boost the lower frequencies if you do this by the way.
