Blue Öyster Cult

Post by mikemc » Mon Apr 02, 2007 8:15 pm

I revisted the 'more cowbell' SNL clip and started to think back to my days as ... yes.. a voracious listener of Blue Öyster Cult

My favorite album of theirs was Tyranny and Mutation, with the self-title debut a close second. Listening to Amazon online samples, it sounds so ...mellow... but for then, particularly the 2nd album, it was edgy. Secret Treaties lost me, and Don't Fear the Reaper was not for me at the point it came out.

Say what you will, but they've got something of everything in their music, from Asbury Park to San Francisco.

From that i went to Todd Rundgren's Utopia, and then on to Jan Hammer and RTF, then to King Crimson, Gong, Heldon...

they're the butt end of jokes now, but they were way ahead of their time.
