Live hangs at startup

Hi,
this started when I bought the legal version (6) and happens almost every time. 95% of times.
I start the laptop (XP, 1,6 MHz Interl Pentium M, 1GB RAM) and then Live. It takes a very long time to start for Live and when it's finally up, it's dead slow. Triggering a clip takes a minute or so.
I kill Live, wait until Live.exe is gone from the processes list in Task Manager and restart Live. Everything is fine, live starts up in seconds, all works.
I can live with it, because it's alway OK with second try, but the funny thing is cracked version worked fine
Any idea whats wrong?

Hi,
You should try resetting the Preferences. Delete the preferences.cfg file, and the undo.cfg file if it is there, from that folder:
* Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live x.xx\Preferences
* Mac OS X: /Library/Preferences/Ableton

Hi,
As I understand it, you 'unlocked' a legal serial on an not-so-legal Live. Did you reinstall the application? You could try re-installing Live.
If it does not help, do send a mail to
[email protected] with the details asked for on that page:

I did reinstall the programm. Actually I reinstalled the whole XP.
But I noticed now that Live gets over it. After some minutes it's fast again. It seams as if something gets loaded in the background which takes a lot of time. Maybe it's XP itself, some drivers or stmn? I usually start Ableton right after I start laptop, because that's the only thing I use it for. The first time it always hangs and I have already used to that I must restart it. I can't really tell if Live works fine because I have started it the second time or just because XP is finally up and running.

Hi,
Then you should probably wait a bit longer. It is possible that Win XP did not fully load all of its drivers. It could also be a plugin. Do you have lots of plugins?

No plugins. But I think I got it. I use an external sound card for both, my laptop and my home computer. So right now the card is connected to other machine and I have chosen "Vinyl AC'97 (WAVE) Wave" as the Audio Device.
When I start Live I must change the Audio Device to No Audio and back. Live appears to be running fine after that.
When I connected the external card to laptop and chose it as the Audio Device, restarted laptop, started Live and it worked just fine. So it's probably because I tend to do the last check at home using the motherboard sound and at the gig the Audio Device is left on Vinyl AC'97 (WAVE) Wave and that's causing the lag.

But now I have a new problem
Live does not recognize my Axiom 25 controller.
I've got 6.05 and 6.03 both installed. On 6.03 Axiom works with no problems.
The one that got the preferences file deleted is 6.05. I reinstalled Axiom's driver. I can see it under MIDI tab in preferences window. It's On, but I can't assign any knobs.

this happened on my pc machine with an RME card.
hang on start-up etc.
the program would start with no audio driver selected.
same thing after fresh xp/live install.
...don't know. too bad i had a dual Live set-up networked together.
I'm on a mac now.

Got the controller working too. Just had to switch something in from Preferences.
