Corrupted audio after network dump

Very strange problem.
I just moved my folder of samples from my desktop machine to my laptop machine and a bunch of the samples ended up corrupted after the move.
I've done this dozens of times before without a hitch - but what's particularly weird about this one is that there are no errors and the files play correctly everywhere EXCEPT in my Live project. Basically, a bunch of them play with dropouts in the middle (in different places with each startup), all of which can be fixed by using the replace feature in the sample settings and simply reloading the same file.
What happened? If the files got fried via the ethernet transfer, why do they work fine after simply reloading them, and why do they work everywhere but in Live?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
