just looking at the my remaining space on my HD and i;m using about half my space

however i have nowhere near that amount of data on the drive, so i was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on reclaiming HD space?

i've also got an external HD which i tend to use for permanent storage to keep the mac HD as free as possible!

any advice greatly appreciated

Cheers

Here is a cool utility that will help you determine what is eating all your space:
http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/index.php

There is also an app that will strip the language resources from the OS to save some space:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13031

Also, if you ever get to the point of reinstalling the OS, do a custom install and uncheck all the extra crap like the foreign language packs, additional fonts, print drivers, included apps (garage band if you dont use it), etc. so they never get installed in the first place
Here is an overview of the custom install procedure from Apples support pages:

please don't ever think of a hard drive as permanent storage.

Please make back-ups of all your precious data
