I have seen that in recent times the BBE Sonic Maximizer has been a popular tool for fattening things up in the mix. Is this still the best tool for this job? Or - What is the latest greatest plug in now?

personally I think sonic maximizer is the best way to make your ears hurt. just use regular compression and eq, if you can't get it fat with those then nothing will save your mix.

FYI BBE SM does not work well with live 6. Use the search.

You can sometimes use one instance, but more than one will cause you huge grief in 6.

what grief? I've used several before with no problems, I just decided eventually that I hated it's sound.

that happens sometimes, some bugs I suppose are also mac only so I won't go bragging about it

I often use several instances of SM on PC with no issues at all in Live 6

BBE SM works very well on bassdrums and things like that in my opinion...

I use BBE sonic maximizer on bass, drums and occasionally other instruments to give sheen and sparkle as well as depth.

It's an essential plug in my opinion and I never had an issue with it in terms of crashes or tech problems.

It has two dials and is a peice of piss to use and always makes a sound... sound better.

It works perfectly fine in Ableton 6.0.7.

belmiro, are you on a PC... if so, do you also use any of the Waves plugs? That was the other common factor with the other PC users experiencing errors...

I use waves SSL 4000 plugins and the L3 ultramaximizer.

I now remember recently dropping a large rack onto my master channel which had the BBE maximizer and some of the waves stuff in it and my ableton crashing.

I actually lost sound on the project after that....which I still haven't been able to recover, so mebbe it was the BBE maximizer?

Not sure if it deffo is that though as some projects have both and seem fine.... shrugs

Anybody on PowerPC Mac OS X having trouble installing this thing? I can't make it show up for the life of me. I've selected a custom folder pointing to the "Sonic Maximizer VST MAC" folder and everything, and they won't show up at all.
