Hello,
i've found a good deal for a second hand virus ti,
and i think could be a nice addon to my actual setup,
(using mainly operator and sampler for sounds).
Btw i've read there are problems with ableton live,
mainly due to latency and a bug recording midi.
So are these problems still here?
Are these minor things or they make it inusable?

I believe most of these issues have been worked out as of the v.2 of the Virus TI OS.

I've got a TI, and am very happy with it. It's true that there are latency issues when recording MIDI events with live, but there is a workaround... basically, you record through a secondary MIDI track, routing the output to the track that the Virus Control plugin is on. As long as you are recording on parts 2-16, there will be no delay.

It's a bit annoying, but at least it is functional in this manner. I've been told by support that the abes and the access guys are working together to come up with a fix, though.

Virus Control is nice, IMO. There are many virus users who don't seem to like it, and they just use MIDI instead... since I'm more of a software guy, I rely on VC heavily.

There are a few other minor annoyances with VC, but I wouldn't consider them to be "showstoppers". For instance, rendering doesn't work with VC, but that's really just because the Virus itself is a realtime instrument, so you have to record it in realtime. The workaround here is also easy -- you just create an audio track to resample the output of Virus Control and render that track with the rest of your arrangement. Similarly, you can't route each part on the virus independently... VC mixes all of them down for you, but the plugin does have its own little mixer, at least.

So there do exist a few "gotchas" with VC, but overall I find that it's a very efficient way to work with the hardware. My primary hardware used to be a nord lead and sh-101 that were in a shared studio with some friends, and the hassle of MIDI bussing and audio capture caused way more work and annoyance than Virus Control.

would any of you TI owners know if/when Access plans to upgrade the TI to USB2.0?

As I understand it, the hardware is USB1.1, and that's part of the issues with bandwidth and digital flow into your DAW. Can you guys clarify the issues here?

There are NO plans to upgrade, so don't even think about it. When Access developed the TI, it would have been too expensive to implement usb2,0, there were just no audio packages available for it they could leverage against, and it would have driven the cost up greatly. This is right from Access's mouth BTW, there's some posts about it onthe Virus TI forums.

Honestly, at this point they've sorted the whole 1.1 bandwidth issues for the TI's IMO. You need to think of the USB cable as doing nothing more than being a replacement for the analog outs and midi ports on the back. It doesn't let you stream 16 channels into Live or anything like that. You pretty much stream two stereo channels into the DAW, as well as midi and one set of analog signals if you use the TI as a soundcard.

I think a lot of people expected more from the TI aspects (I did), but once you understand that it's merely a replacement for the analog connections, it all makes more sense.

Anyway, I highly doubt that we'll see a new Virus anytime soon with USB2 or firewire. My guess is that Access has a lot more features to add to the current range still.
