I'm having trouble with takeover modes.
here is what the manual says:
"When MIDI controls that send absolute values (such as faders) are used in a bank-switching
setup, where they address a different destination parameter with each controller bank, you
will need to decide how Live should handle the sudden jumps in values that will occur when
moving a control for the rst time after switching the bank. Three Take-Over modes are
available:"
I'm using an edirol PCR and when I do something simiilar to a "bank-switching setup" for example recalling a preset in the controller which assigns a given physical controller to a different midi cc or note, takover mode seems to work once per controlled parameter. Every time a "bank switching" operation is used after that, and the position of the physical controller doesn't match the value in live it simply jumps abruptly.
I've been talking to tech support and it seems they're telling me this is supposed to work this way, that takeover mode will work ONCE and then not again. This seems counter-intuitive. Can anyone tell me differently. Or can anyone tell me how it should be used, or how they are using it. I would like to take advantage of this feature but right now it's not helping me.

I actually have been e-mailing directly with tech support about this problem and the bad news is the way we've been describing it is exactly the way its supposed to work. The only application I can see for the feature as it is implemented is that when you first boot up a live set, it can be used to synchronize the positions of items in live to your hardware controller, after that the feature is still assuming that you use your controller in a 1 to 1 mapping scenario where each knob/button is only mapped to one item. I have to imagine this is not the way most people use their controllers, but rather use bank switching or channel switching on their controllers to output different midi cc's to different destinations in live, using the same physical knob/fader. So the feature seems incomplete and not so useful as is.
there is one workaround which may or may not help you. If you touch a control with the mouse, it will wait again to be taken over. So if you're on track 2 and tweaking and you want to jump back to track one and tweak volume, you can switch to your bank on your controller for track 1 (or however you do it) The using the mouse make a tiny adjustment on track 1's volume(or whatever parameter you want to tweak). Live apparently then recognizes the track volume to be taken-over by the mouse, and will wait again for take-over when you use the controller and will NOT jump immediately to the input value. It's not the greatest workaround, but it works
