Just curious what others think of Computer Music Magazine ?--I've been reading it for sixth months or so myself.

Like it ? Hate it ? Indifferent ? 8O

I personally really like it...I've learned tons from it over the last year and half that I've been getting it. Many on this forum will claim that its too much for beginners but I don't necessarily agree...I think there's always something new to learn. Another magazine that I love and think of as just as important to my "learning" arsenal is Sound On Sound.

I've been reading it on an off for years, and really like it. They regularly have a beginners special so that the late comers can catch up.

£5.99 is a bit steep though...

BUT - my Mrs. has just started working for Future Publishing on MBUK, and I get mine for free! FREE!

I've been through them all - Computer Music, Future Music, Music Tech, Create Digital Music, Sound on Sound...

It seems that they all loop with an interval of about a year; Get Your Booming Bass, Various Vocal Techniques, Plug-in round up, FX Bonanza, How to Sound Like Trent, Cutting up Likable Loops and then back to base one.

So for the last year I've stopped buying them - they don't give me shite anymore. But I used to love them. Probably Sound on Sound and Computer Music the most.

I think i'm going to get the new edition because its got Nebula 3 on the cover disc and that is a set of plug-ins that is going to do nothing less than revolutionise electronic music :)

I take it your wife is a full-time employee and not a freelancer? I've been an on/off contributor to a couple of Future mags for about 6 years, and I've only once been offered free mags, and that was only to one I was already subscribed to :-(

Yup - she started there last week. She said they have a room called "the bat cave", where all the mountain biking goodies that they get sent are kept.

I've tried to get her to find the CM bat cave...

I also have a friend who works for Future and once a month Computer Music and Future Music fall through my letterbox for free :)

There good, especially for the free VST's. Zebra is all over my latest tune!

Not quite as interesting when there free for some reason though. You tend to read it more if you've shelled out 6 quid!

I think it's really good for those starting out, they seem to go on cycle of a couple years where they start repeating things though.

Mustn't be so nice to the freelancers then. Now I'm glad I don't spellcheck and let them do it! ;-)

way too beginner-focused in my opinion. every issue is like a getting started guide. too expensive in the U.S.

i'm a Sound on Sound man usually.
