still cannot sync Live to external sequencer

I am trying to sync Live to an old Roland sequencer. I've been trying for years with different versions of Live and different computers...I've just got a new MacBook so I thought I'd try again, so if there are any MIDI geniuses out there, I could use your help.

I've tried Rebirth, Reason and Cubase, and the sync is rock solid. Live seems to be okay if I start at the beginning of the song, but I can never start playing in the middle of the song, as the pointer jumps to a random spot. This is something to do with how often my Roland sends out Song Position data, which isn't as often as other sequencers. But programs like Reason don't seem to care, Live does, so I'm absolutely certain this is a flaw in Live.

If I could get Reason to act as a master to Live, maybe that would work, but rewire doesn't seem to let me do that. I've been looking for OS X utilities that might communicate with Live so that the pointer doesn't jump (back in 2003 on os 9 there were almost no options, but now with os X there's more). Any more ideas would be appreciated....and it's a mystery to me why more people don't have my problem, because I've been trying demos from Live 1 to Live 6, and been on 2 different Macs, and the problem is always the same.
