midi remote - scrolling up/down thru scenes

has anyone successfully setup a midi controller to scroll the scenes up and down in the session view?
i am trying to set up a fcb1010 foot expression pedal - to do this. but one step at a time - i want to make sure i can even get a knob to work which i haven't yet. tried to assign one of the trigger finger knobs bu it doesn't do anything ...
just sort of fishing for some starter guidance...dialog. thanks.
