Hi all!

Is there any faster way to switch between sets/songs with live 6,
then to use the built in browser? it seems very slow for a "live" app.

and now that we have project folders in Live 6 it makes it even worse
to find the right line to click while on stage...

or did i miss the obvious?

Use only one large set.... there are many ways to set it up you can use racks and switch between chains.... there isn't any right way to do it...


I do it like this.... I have five midi tracks, each one holds only midi notes.... then I have five midi tracks each one holding an instance of massive(vsti synth).... the notes from the note tracks are sent to the massive tracks(only so I can mute single notes and have effects trails left over).... I have an external track from my sampler for drums.

I think most of us put all songs/tracks/etc in one big set, and launch different parts of the sets with scenes. Add the ability to drag 'n drop clips from the browser into that one set, and there's not a whole lot you can't do.

One of my sets has 100+ tracks, and 80+ scenes. I only have to load it once, and I'm finished loading for the night.

wouldnt that take up huge amounts of RAM? I know when I have at least 3 full songs on my Ibook (1.5gb ram) and maybe 4-5 fx, it begins to slowdown.

yes, eats up RAM plus it makes it hard if for example you have a 3/4 time signature song following a 4/4. You will have to remember to go up to the time signature and change it to the right one.

my way of working is like this:

i have several normal tracks and sometimes 1 or 2 vsti instruments.

all is shot by a midi keyboard: i only have to touch the laptop when changing
sets.
a good old program change would be cool or something like that.

as my setlist changes from gig to gig i need to flexible as well.

If there is a way to put my sets into one big set and then hopping around
in it the way i want it, also changing BPM and VSTinstuments,
please let me know.

maybe with those live racks? i thought that way we only can make effekt or instrument racks...

Set the time sig in the clips if you're using follow actions. We have several songs in 6/8 sandwiched in between tracks in 4/4, and there are literally no problems using follow actions.

Change the name of your scene to 100bpm (for example), this way, when you trigger that scene, the tempo will change.

Set the time sig in the clips if you're using follow actions. We have several songs in 6/8 sandwiched in between tracks in 4/4, and there are literally no problems using follow actions.

Just remember to set the time signature before you set start/end and loop points - changing the sig will throw off your markers - took me a long time and a lot of cursing to figure that out.
