problems 3 hours in

Hi, i dont think this exclusively an ableton problem but after i've been on live for around 3 hours it starts to pop and click and i have cpu overload probs. as i remember the pc used to do something simalar with cubase.
i do have a hell of alot of cables around the tower could this be the problem? or do i need a better fan in my pc?
any advice you can give would be appreceiated, Cheers

Which version of Live are you running? Is it a legit copy??
Have you optimized your PC by turning off any unnecessary programs or services running in the background and set your preferences in control panel system to priority for background services (instead of the default programs).
Do you have the most current ASIO driver for your soundcard or have you tried using ASIO4ALL if the latency or clicking/popping is runing your pro audio experience to compare it against your soundcard's own driver? What are your computer specs in full?

i'm running Live 6 and it's legit m8, i use asio4all it seems to be bettter than my soundcards version,
my PC is an E-machines and it has an 80 g drive, i've upgraded it from 256mb ram to 1.5gb
i've not optimized it like you suggest but i'm gonna try it now
