well i have never ran vista on one of my own machines but i am a trained computer tech (windows only) and i have used a few different vista pc's

and they are sh*t windows doesn't know how to allocate ram properly .. and its the same in vista i couldn't believe how slow his computer was he has at least a 3ghz processor and 2gb ram and it's so slow its like running live and reason on a p2
it just wasn't happening ...

i was using xp on a sony vaio until last month i had a 1.86ghz processor and 1,5gb ram
and i was using about 20 tracks in live maybe 3 vst's and running reason .. its still a bit chuggy sometimes but if i froze the midi channels it would be fine..

i can say that vista has to much going on underneath the other applications i.e. all the windows processes to be a truly viable 64bit system

my suggestion to you is xp .. if not make the change to mac ....
i did and I'm so much happier
