Hi,

I'm working with some midi drum tracks. I'd like to pull out different notes to their own track so I could more easily work with their velocities - especially using LIVE's midi velocity effect. Any ideas how to do that?

I've tried copying from the original track but I can't get the notes to paste into a new one. At least not where I want. Can't seem to select where they're supposed to go.

Doesn't seem like this should be that complicated. Hope someone can help.

If you'd be willing to work in the arrangement view, you could at least control where the notes are pasted.

AT that point, you could consolidate and drag clips back into the session view if you need to work there.

Mmm, what about copying the whole clip, then deleting the notes you don't want.

Oh, I like the idea about copying and deleting notes. That sounds easy.

Seriously though, doesn't it seem like it should be easier to copy and paste midi notes? I'v noticed other posts too. Seems like such a basic function.

yes, for some reason there is no cursor in the clip view, which makes pasting (anywhere other than immediately following the copied notes) pretty much impossible. very annoying

How about this way:

Make channel 1 MIDI with your midi clip
Make channel 2 MIDI with your Drum instrument (Sampler, VST. etc)
Make for each note (each drum sound in the clip)
a MIDI channel
<Miidi rack for note select> <velocity tool>

grap the midi clip from MIDI 1 in each drum sound and send to MIDI 2 which is the drum instrument. I was trying to send a screenshot but do not know how to

what i usually do is have one big rack full of drum hits, then send multiple channels of midi to it for the different parts so that i can sequence them seperately. (eg 1 channel kiks and snares, 1 channel hats, one chanel drum loop pieces, etc...)

occasionally i'll add some other percussion racks halfway through the tune, but i generally try to keep them all in one place for the sake of tidiness.

I would say yes you do.

There are others out there too.

to add a screenshot, i believe you should do this: upload the image to a site like wwww.mywebsite.com or maybe imageshack.us ....

then just put the tag between the img url...

so to add a screen shot...you do something like

It sounds like you're saying to have a midi track containing the full drum sequence clip, and then break out each 'note' of the drum track to a separate track so that each can be mixed/effected differently.

Is that right? Can that be done in Live? I'll have to look into it later myself.

This pasting issue is a real pain when using MIDI in Live, there's no way to cut and paste individual notes reliably, they go where ever. Been discussed a lot on the forums, definitely something that needs to change.

There's no way to split up midi events by note/channel either.

Your best bet is to copy the clips and delete the notes you don't want, as mentioned above.
