Hello all and TIA.

I'll try to be as concise as possible. I purchased and installed Live 6 for my Dell PC a few weeks back. In recent days I've noticed when I startup my computer the hourglass doesn't go away for upwards of 20 minutes... and even after that the "average" CPU usage is between 40-60%. I've checked the system processes and it may be the dreaded csrss.exe file which is causing much resource issues. I've also noticed (maybe unrelated) that Live 6 has been "acting up." Sometimes it starts up immediately, other times it takes over a minute to load, other times it just freezes on the loadup screen. (shrug)

Thinking this issue was tied in with the resource issue, I tried to create another user profile, but even that user profile has the same resource issue. I then tried a system restore to an earlier point (before the date I originally installed Live). After rebooting to that earlier OS checkpoint, the Live desktop icon was gone, I found the executable file in the Program folder, but when I clicked on it I got a repeated error message and Live never loads.

At this point I'm running out of options and contemplating just reformatting the hard drive and re-installing XP. If I do this will I run into any problems with unlocking? What are the steps you would recommend I take to ensure I save all the Live projects and plugins I've downloaded? Thanks again.

Hi,

If you have t reformat, you'll have to re-authorize Live. If you did unlock Live once before, you shouldn't have a problem.

Would you get a message saying 'you have reached your unlock limit', send a mail to [email protected], with your serial number and a short explanation, and the team will give you another unlock.

Thanks for the quick response Amaury. Will it help to save the unlock.cfg file that other threads on here mention? Will this re-format unlock be the "2nd" unlock I am allotted upon purchasing, or in most cases will Ableton recognize and accept the same "1st" unlock serial #?

This is all new to me so I apologize if these questions are redundant.

Hi,

You can try saving the unlock.cfg file and placing it again in the right place after re-installing, but that should not work.

Our policy is not '2 unlocks for a lifetime', but 2 unlocks simultaneously. It means that you will always be allowed to get new machines, and re-unlock Live.
