I just want to get mp3s into Live via bidule, I'm on a pc, whats the best thing to use.

I was surprised to find out that Tassman 3 swallows mp3 files for its audio-processing instrments. Nice feature! Probably not what you're lookine for though.

how cool - this is quite significant for live users....maybe Ableton should look at getting in with the guy and licensing it for a Live plug-in

XTal is a VST instrument, though, not a VST effect plugin. You need a ReWire slave host (like Bidule) to play it into Live, with tempo sync.

how stable is this combination - say in terms of playing a live gig?

Bidule ReWired into Live seems to be quite stable. At least, it is for me. From the reports I've heard, if it works, it works well -- and if it doesn't work well, you'll know immediately. So don't worry about any surprises in the middle of a gig.

Bidule also has two different ReWire slave modes (change this in the Bidule prefs). A few users (mostly ProTools users, though) who initially reported instability with Bidule as a ReWire slave found it to be rock-solid after switching to the alternate ReWire mode.

Now XTal, on the other hand, is a beta plugin. The developer claims to use it himself for live gigs, but I have found it just a teensy bit unstable in Bidule. It's been getting better, though. The lastest version is way better than the first one was, so IMHO it's worthwhile keeping on top of the latest updates.

speaking of which, at what stage would you say bidule is at re beta>full release - I'm running outta cash fast and I'm becoming quite attched to it - any ideas how much it will be yet??
