Live crashes when rewired after upgrade to 3.02

I know I shouldn't have, but after upgrading to 3.02 Live, I cannot use Live rewired to Cubase SX anymore. Now when I load any of my tunes into SX 2.0.1 and start Live, I get loud crackling on my monitors when the Live splash screen appears. Eventually the Session view appears but the PC is completely frozen. If I am patient enough I can exit Live by clicking the close box, but this takes several minutes. When Live closes, Cubase is gone too and a message box appears from WinXP:
"Live 3.0.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

What do I need to do to completely uninstall 3.0.2 and reinstall 3.0.1.?

Thanks,
Justin.

Hi grimleyj,

there's no change concerning ReWire between Live 3.0.1 or 3.0.2.
Please keep in mind that you have to start the Live version that you want to use as ReWire slave once standalone so that it can install it's ReWire engine.

That means:
1) Start Live 3.0.2 standalone (be sure that the right Live version is started if you should double click on an Live set icon)
2) Close Live 3.0.2
3) Start Cubase (activate ReWire channels)
4) Start Live 3.0.2

Please tell me if this solves your problem or not.

regards,
Alex

Alex,
Thanks for the reply. I have done what you said. I can run Live 3.02 standalone just fine. I am still having the Cubase SX->Rewire->Live problem though even after letting Live 3.0.2 start once alone. I haven't tried creating a new song yet, I have just tested songs that worked fine before the upgrade to 3.02.

Hi grimleyj,

get sure that the "Release ASIO driver in background" option in Cubase SX is disabled (not checked).

Furthermore, please send me the log file of Live "...\Program Files\Ableton\Live 3.0.2\Preferences\Log.txt".

regards,
Alex

Wow...you know what, I just logged on here to tell you that I have the same problem...I'm on a Mac OS 10.2 using Cubase SL 1.0.6 and Live 3.0.2. Songs that were totally fine are now all crackley and unplayable when Live is Rewired into Cubase. Totally unusable right now!

Hi ekko,

please give us some more details of that problem.
Songs that were totally fine are now all crackley and unplayable when Live is Rewired into Cubase
Does that mean the songs play fine when running Live standalone but not when rewired into Cubase?
or
Does that mean with an older version of Live the songs played fine when rewired into Cubase but not with this version of Live?

regards,
Alex

Hi Alex

The answer to both questions is "yes." Perhaps this is related to the other problem I posted here in the forum, wherein (at this point) EVERY drum loop that I load into Live is automatically set to double the correct tempo in the "warp" section? I mean I'm physically retyping the correct orig BPM for EVERY loop that I load.

Perhaps that's unrelated, I don't know. (Yes, that does the same thing in standalone and under Rewire).

The most perplexing part of the crackling issue is that it's seemingly random. I can usually play the first 3-4 bars of the song, then it gets all frizzy and stops playing. But just now, I went to the bathroom, came back, and it works fine. Other than taking a leak, I made no changes to any settings at all.

Perhaps it only works on an empty bladder? :)

Here's another odd thing I'm noticing...if I have Live rewired into Cubase and Cubase is the "active" front window and I hit the "Play" button on my keyboard, Live will pop up and tell me "This action will stop audio, proceed?"...yet if I have Live as the front "active" application, transport controls work just fine.

Alex,
Sorry for taking so long to get back with this.
First of all let me say that 3.0.2 is working fine rewired to Cubase SX 2.0.1 at last. However, I am not exactly sure what I did to fix it. I launched one of my tunes that was causing problems into Cubase. I disabled an instance of Absynth 2.0 that I noticed was not being used and launched Live in Rewire mode. Everything worked fine and I could load the Live arrangement of my tune and play it. At this stage I figured that Absynth was causing a CPU overrun or somethng, but when I went back and reenabled it in Cubase, everything still worked fine (about 50% CPU load), and I can now load all my Cubase/Live songs with no problems!! It has been running great for a couple of days now.

I still have a problem that I have been getting ever since ugrading to Cubase SX 2 from 1.6 where I get a digital distortion noise at the start of every song from the Live Rewire channel in Cubase. However, I can work around this by inserting a couple of bars of silence at the start of my tunes, and edit it out after bouncing down to stereo. Annoying, but not fatal as I don't play Live "live".
Thanks,
grimley.
