ZOOM KEYS PLEASE

Ableton. Please listen to your users. Zooming with the mouse is not quick and precise enough for pro use. Please introduce a simpler method for zooming in and out in Arrange! I work with Logic Pro 10 hours a day; I would switch to Ableton in a heartbeat, if you would introduce zooming workflow improvements. I am really surpised by how rudimentary Live's zoom-key commands are, given its otherwise sophisticated and intuitive functionality.

i.e.
a key command that automatically fits the loop length to the width of the arrange window..

Hi,

To duffcat: you can use the '+' and '-' keys of your computer keyboard to zoom in and out.

to the others: I'll let you discuss your more advanced wishes!

Amaury

More user assignable zoom commands:

- Zoom to clip, zoom to song length, zoom to loop region, zoom all tracks full vertical, zoom all tracks full horizontal.

Hello duffcat,

I would be interested in hearing your opinion: are you missing being able to zoom with other keys than '+' and '-', so you say they are 'rudimentory', or do you miss other functions?

Amaury

Hi there Amaury. Thanks for your interest. The + and - keys zoom incrementally. As such, selecting the exact region you want is tedious; returning to the original zoom is tedious as well. Zooming with the mouse is hit and miss and requires too much playing around. I miss being able to zoom in on specific parts and then return to my previous screen zoom/position with only one keystroke.

Example. In Logic I can select a region. press the Z key and that region becomes as big as my monitor. Pressing shift-Z returns me to my original screen. Also in Logic, pressing the control and alt keys simultaneously brings up a zoom tool. While holding down those keys I can draw a rectangle around the area that I want to zoom in on and when I release the keys that area instantly gets zoomed on my screen. Pressing shift-Z returns me to my previous screen position. This method is extremely fast and precise. I cannot do this with Live. .

I am a pro user (I write music for commercials and score feature length films) and I use the zoom functions very very often (literally 100's of times a day). Most of my colleagues agree. Live needs a more accurate and quick zoom in and out method. Also, please see Pro-Tools for other methods of zooming.

Selecting and then pressing one key to get the selected area maxed, sounds pretty neat.

Absolutely, +1

Also:

- ability to map to missing zoom keys in Clip View (length, end, etc)

This goes along with "let us map EVERY interface element in live, not just the ones Ableton thinks we need"

- user preset Zoom Levels in Clip View:

So we can set hotkeys to a pre-determined zoom level so we can jump in and out ... regardless of focus.

Currently once we lose focus on the waveform we need to click back in it and manually zoom around again = obstacle to live mixing
