Help! MIDI assignation doesn't work anymore...

Hi there,

I use Ableton Live 6 along with a Novation Remote SL25. Ableton recognizes the Remote well, and vice-versa : I can control Live, eg Start/Stop, track faders... with the Remote.
But when I want to use manual Midi assignation, it doesn't work :
I click on the Midi assignation icon, then I select a control, let's say for instance an audio clip, then I press a note on my Novation keyboard... and nothing happens : the assignation panel doesn't show anything, whereas the Midi "led" (well, not a Led, because it's Live's interface, but you know what I mean!) lights up.
The PC keyboard assignation does work properly, anyway...
Would I have forgotten something? Could someone help?

Thx a lot, guys!

You have to set up Ableton to hear your midi controller. You set that up in the preferences portion of live in the midi sync section.

With my midi interface connected and drivers installed, I click on the input column and it lets me select which port I want ableton to listen to. Then with the midi controller connected to that port I can record the midi data from that midi controller.

My problem is I have a midi footswitch that can only output program change or control change.....but ableton records its output as a pitch bend.... :?:

Hi, thx 4 your answer, but unfortunately, I had already set what you're saying. :(
Actually, everything seems to work fine between Ableton and the Novation, except the manual midi assignation, very strange... :?

To me it sounds like you do not have the box "Remote" enabled for the keyboard in the MIDI preferences. You need "remote" to do control assignments. You need "track" to play instruments.

Had exact same noob problem and this was the mistake.
