Midi in/out on the kp2 should do the trick if you're planning on controlling the thing or using it to control live. If you want to process audio from live in the kp2, then the only way is the analog way with external audio cables, i'm afraid. That's how I've done it.

Basically you don't need anything except for some audio cables. Install the www.asio4all.com drivers on your IBM, plug audio out from IBM into KP and from KP to mixer/PA.

For more advanced operations you might want an external audio interface with at least two stere outs so you can choose in Live if you want to send audio straight out or to the KP. If you want to control Live from the KP or vice versa you also need a midi interface, but you can perhaps use the interface on your keyboard for that.

Thank u vercy much!!

it's problematic, kaoss pad uses a total of five messages for its screen, two of them are useless in live, the other three are....

the way I like to do it is to first use midi ox with midi yoke.... I use midi ox to disable the two useless messages(I'll give you more details later I have to go to work)... but refer to your manual, all you need is the touch message, the x, and the y.... I'd also use midi ox to convert the program change wheel on kp to a cc message....

now you can much more easier learn the midi messages from the screen.... the kaoss pad is a very usefull controller, with some creative racking you can recreate it on a send track for instance using your own effects and use it as normal...

also what I've heard of people doing is using midi ox, to "grid" the kp3 off, like you potentially could split it up into four kaoss pads with smaller screens, or you could draw a grid and through programming or midi ox create areas that act like buttons so fourth....

refer to your manual and play arround with midi ox... in fact learn midi ox and midi that way in the future you can optimize any device that you like the way you want it :).

I see you mentioned kp3 there, but kp2 does not have the feature of usb connection like the kp3. Now you seem to know a lot more about kp's, though. I've only played with a borrowed kp2 myself, so I don't really know the best solution for connecting it. I googled it and people didn't seem to have any problems with using the kp2 as a controller, although I found no instructions on how they did it.

But minamilover, you know you can also use it the other way around and use live to control the kp... That could be fun too, although I'm also not sure on how that functions.
But a simple midi to usb interface is required to connect the kp2 to the computer and figure out these things, though. So you can start there.

g'day

did you try connecting from KP2 MIDI OUT > COMPUTER MIDI IN ?

if so, then in Live's MIDI preferences turn Remote on for that MIDI IN port

touch the KP2... you should see a little light near the CPU meter in LIVE everytime you touch the KP2.

turn on MIDI MAP (ctrl + m) assign the KP2 to different things.

what i am guessing is they use MIDI OX (a utility program) to filter messages because the KP2 would send both X & Y at the same time...
so with MIDI OX/YOKE (the utilitieS) you turn off the X and map the Y to abeton effects, then swap that around and turn off the Y and proceed to map the X... after that the filter should be turned off.

hey you can use the kp 2 in live as a extanal effect controlled by live or as a synthy ( start at prog. 70 )

you can control all features of the kp 2 with live
and also you can control live functions with the kp 2

so i will create a live set so that you can see it
