I'm not really sure how to bypass this issue..

I was managing my sets and remove all not used samples..

I noticed that EIC samples also get copied to the set's sample folder when you perform 'collect and save'..

Obviously this is not (always) wanted because they're in Live's library..
Usually I only want recorded clips to be collected..

Imagine you've used the EIC full Grand piano patch

So is there any method of not collecting samples that I don't want to be collected?

Or de-collect certain samples without messing up the set?

the reason why I collect/save is because I carry sets from home/work and both computers do not share the same library..

I understand your problem but I don't understand how you want the computer to predict what sounds you want and which you don't

I had to be more specific I guess..
I was thinking about maybe an contextual per track option to collect samples on that specific track..

well I use collect/save also for safety reasons, just to make sure that the samples are always packed within the Project folder..
I'm talking about recordings and some 3rd party one shots.... Samples that absolutely cannot be lost..

But the main reason I do the save/collect is because I don't have the same sample library on my 2 computers..
So if I take the set from 1 comp to the other it's just a small contained package..
But I cannot do the save/collect because normally I would just freeze the huge EIC patches and do a save/collect, but then it also collects all the EIC samples from that patch as well..
Even if that track is frozen..

I think it's just me that's having this weird issue..
because I am a weird organizer..

So if we could do a per track collect I would be able to skip the track with EIC stuff (or other big patches),
because the frozen audio file will be saved in the project folder anyway..

so the 'issue' has been upgraded to a wish now,
I beter post this in the feature request forum..

No, I'm with you at least in some ways. I have had this happen before too

"oh, a complete set of grand piano samples..."

Would it behave differently if you not only froze the EIC track, but also deleted the instrument?

Poster: Are you using 'Collect all and Save' in the File menu? Are you aware that if you do that via the file manager, i.e. by choosing 'manage files' and then 'manage project', you have a choice to include or not include samples from the Library, samples from other projects, samples from elsewhere?

And second thing, if you first save your set as a project, any subsequent recorded file will automatically end up in the project folder. You'll then only have to include samples from elsewhere.

that's the feature I was looking for..
I guess I have to spend more time in the file manager..
I obviously always took the easy route under the File>Collect/Save..

that way i don't have to collect and save unless I am sharing a set.

That would be the easy way but I don't like to put all of my own/3rd party samples in the Live library because Live isn't the only app I work with..

So I'm not going to make Live's library the 'central' library just because Live has this way of managing it's sets..

That just doesn't feel right to me..

do what you want.


I keep 100 % of my samples in my live library I also keep a back up of the same sample collection on a different drive.

this serves two function
1) i can work on samples in other programs
2)quality bacvk-up of entire sample collection


I cannot stress enough, how important it is to have a quality back of impotant data

I had a major HD crash a few years ago..
since then I keep a triple back-up of all my work..

some call me a backupmaniac but you'll learn it the hard way only once..
