For live guitar playing, what are some of your favorite Live racks, effects, and/or free plugins that would be coded for universal binary os x?

well, I hate to say it but I don't know of any "freeware" for osx, and that means there are only "paid" things to have.

Guitar rig is great, personally, I'd go the software route and forget that box the other version comes with

Amplitube 2 is good, but price wise, you should get stealth plug instead and then you can upgrade to full version if you want to.

Speaking of amplitube 2, the "hendrix" edition is a personal favorite, but probably not for people who don't want that "old school" sound.

The line6 stuff is good, man, that might be the best "first" box......guitarport or toneport........

Everything I've mentioned costs money, but I've owned or used it in OSX UB format and know for certain that they work.

Um.. free-wise I've not looked too much, Guitar-rig 2 does very nicely, and in Live the ping-pong delay can never, NEVER be overused for wall-of-sound-oanism(sp?)

That said, I don't really like Live's phaser/flanger/chorus for guitar, but the beatrepeat can come up with some cool stuff...

Are you mainly gonna be doing live stuff, or studio stuff though? cos from experience I've found that playing guitar and dealing with Live at the same time, on stage, can be really tricky. For live use I'm tempted to suggest the best route is to just get another guitarist to noodle away while you rock the laptop.

Yeah, I've been playing live with a few other musicians. Last Saturday, I used Live during the set and ran my guitar through it. It was awesome, though I noticed some latency, but nothing too distracting. I am mainly looking for plugins, tricks, racks, tips, etc for live guitar through Live.

I don't think I'd be up for using a laptop live, since computers are prone to... uuumm... stability problems (although a very clean dedicated unit might cut it). That's the reason I use my POD.

However, I would definitely use Spectrum and Thrash live running in Live... those two would expand my arsenal a lot (I use them for recording, but not live).

Thanks. I'll check it out. No stability problems on the macbook. This thing has been running smoothly since I began using it. I've messed with some of the preset audio racks for guitar, and there are a few I really like. I just want to see what other peepz have tried.

Don't know of any free good ones... Amplitube2 is good though.

it s free, you can get some nice sounds out of it. FreeAmp2 has a quite nice
UI for a freebie.

On my machine, it doesn t run very smooth, so i would not use it live,
but your expirience may be different.

Reaktor has a nice ensemble, can tremember the name,

Guitar rig is great but costs $$$, but it s not limited to guitar and much FX fun
