For my live set I'm Running two 60 min audio tracks in the arrangement view on two tracks. Along the way I play various soft synths live (Battery 3, Absynth 4 & FM over the top. In total there are 27 midi tracks with zero midi clips.

As I go through the set only switch on the VST's i need at that time using the switch on the Device Title Bar. At most there would be two vst's switched on.

I am experiencing dropouts even when there is only one audio track playing & 1 VST switched on. The CPU meter will shoot up to 127% even when the vst isn't been played and just the audio is running. Is this because of all the midi channels open but not in use?

Live 6.0.7
MacBook Pro / 2.33GHz / 2 GB Ram / OSX 10.4.8
M-Audio Firewire Audiophile
Buffer Size 870
External 7200 RPM hard drive for audio files

all i can say is that you dont do anything wrong, its ableton live! live is known as THE app with massive performance problems... see this forum... for some, like you or me... there are few tracks in the arrangment which could knock down live...even the cpu meter shows something like 20%..


do you need some special live functions? if no, get rid of live and buy something else or go and look for some freeware sequencers..they all have better performance...

Hi,

Do you get the same problem using the internal soundcard of the MacBook Pro?
Also, have you checked that all of your plugins are updated? Whcich are they exactly?
