doing the lesson to correct for latency has no effect.
the incoming audio remains completely unchanged, the latency setting has

seriously, please tell me i am doing something wrong, because this
is a program breaker for me.

i got live to make life easier not to have to edit every little thing i record.

What value do you get?

Mine is like .72 ms

it depends on my buffer setting, but changing the compensation as per the lesson
does not affect the re-recorded audio.

it is always out by the same amount relative to the buffer size.

this is with the delay comp turned on and off.

Hi,

What do you expect the 'Driver Error' parameter to do? Live can compensate the latency of the sound card only if monitor is set to OFF while you record, so you use some 'direct monitoring' from your sound card. The 'Driver Error Correction' helps Live to know the real latency of the soundcard. Often times, sound cards report a wrong value to the computer, for the latency. This is all.

It seems that the principles of DEC need more detailed explanation, and the lesson needs to be modified a bit.

I could not make DEC work until I bumped into your mentioning that the track monitor button should be set to OFF. The lesson omits this important point, this is not an obvious thing to do (I use the easy to reach big green button to mute the track while recording, and the DEC doesn't seem to work in this case), hence all the problems. I think it is worth explaining in the FAQ for now.

low and behold... setting the track to OFF has things working right..


stupid lesson didnt mention that, and stole 2 precious hours of work from me and my co writer...

Hi,

I'll let the lesson master know about the confusion. Anyway, the set attached with the lesson has the right setting for monitoring.

Now, the Driver Error Compensation only works with monitoring set to OFF, because, it is meant to be relevant when monitoring the sound through the soundcard or a mixing board directly. When monitoring through Live, the signal of what you're playing is subject to the latency anyway, so, either you adapt to that latency, and you can be sure that what you heard while playing is what you get.
