Tutorial: How to setup & use the Axiom with Live/Impulse

Post by Newecho » Tue May 29, 2007 4:33 pm

I spent quite a bit of time putting together this article on setting up and using the Axiom with Live and Impulse. This article goes beyond the lesson provided by Ableton by offering printable program mapping reference, illustrations, and usage examples.

The article is here - http://newecho.typepad.com/blog/2007/05 ... _the_.html

Enjoy!

Thanks! I just checked here http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=company.warranty and found that the warranty should be for 1 year. Perhaps they can turn it around quickly.

Thanks for the great tutorial.

However it does bring up something...

Why would i sit there pressing left left left left left left, loop - to get to and trigger a clip, when i could have just clicked on it to begin with?

Seems like using the mouse and computer keyboard is way more efficient than anything on the Axiom.

The point of illustrating control surface navigation was to show what it is possible. Whether one decides to go that route is a matter of personal preference.

I personally don't like mousing all that much when doing music. Getting used to navigating with a control surface withouth having to reach for mouse can be great especially in performance. I agree if a nav move would take 20 button pushes, the mouse would be the way to go. But I can hit ">>+>>+>>+Loop" pretty damn fast without having to look where I'm pointing.

In a related note, I'm also a big fan of mapping trigger finger pads to transport/nav/clips etc - especially for recording on the fly.

Thanks for this - I own the Axiom 25 so I will definitely check this out tonight.

90% of the time I just use it for beating the fuck out of the drum pads...

This is cool, but I cant get it to work right with my axiom 49 . When I change the global channel my faders still control faders 1-8, I would like one bank to have buttons assgined to mutes, and another bank arm record, the only thing that is actually working is changing between impule control and clip launch.

This is outstanding, thanks for putting this together. Getting my Axiom to work properly with Ableton has been not as straight forward as I'd hoped it would be.

Great article man ! I learn so many things with it !
However, I still got a problem :

You say that with all the programs, the pads are configured to launch the clips on the current scene, and it doesn't work with my Axiom 61. Is there something special to do ?

I used the dump button on the midi controlers setup page in Live. I also downloaded the lesson but for some reason it seems it's not working. Any ideas ? Regards
D.
