Live generates a hum/noise

I just noticed this now: When my track count gets high, Live generates a very
annoying humming noise, and it seems to increase proportionately with the
number of tracks I have. To rule out third party plugs as possible source, I
simply created a blank set, and pressed ctrl+t over and over again, and when I
get to 30-40 tracks, the noise is quite prominent. I tried to put a spectrum
analyser on the master, but nothing registers there, and the noise is still there,
even if I mute my master out! What the yutz can be causing this?
The problem is there in both 6.05 and in 6.07. There is no noise in the
rendered file if I export a loop. I can only hear the noise through my monitors
- not through PC speakers or headphones. Can anyone re-create the problem?

sporkles,
do you work with an external audio interface? what about your audio inputs in the pref-menu? are the inputs enabled?

It's a brand new QX6700 processor, and when I reached 80 tracks (at which point I stopped adding tracks - I was *kind of* getting the picture

), the CPU meter showed 9% usage.

Yes - my audio card is an M-Audio Audiophile Firewire. I've set everything but the master output to mute in the card's interface. Even when I muted the master, the hum was there. If I delete tracks, the hum decreases proportionately.

I just tested this because it sounded interesting.
I generated 200 empty audio tracks in Live 6.07
all tracks were monitor auto.
I turned my monitoring up full blast and put my ear by the box. (Dangerous)
No noise whatsoever.
Nothing. nada. silencio.

first thing to check for ppl experiencing this problem: if you have a laptop, unplug the power cable.
if the noise disappears, search the forum for "ground loop".

Jeez guys, do you think it has anything to do with me running Windows Vista Business ...cos i still cant get it right. becuase now the humming noise has gone, BUT now i am left with a low quality drowned out sound -no matter how load i put up the volume-
how ever the sound comes out crystal clear through the headphones(Cue).
