vokator in live!
hey guys, anybody have the vokator?
how the hell do i use it in live!
it drops onto midi channels so how would i be able to have a mic on live feed through it? like you do in an armed audio channel.
any body have an idea?

On your Mic channel, you can tell Live to send the audio to Vokator.
In the session view, you select the little tabs below the mixer, and change your Mic Channel's setting from "Main out" to "track XX Vokator"
Also don't miss the tips and tricks section of this forum which has this link:

no joy man!
underneath my vocal input all the sends etc, only audio channels and returns and master is there. 4- vocater isnt in the list!
i read the manual on the link, it tells u how to use orange but not vocator,
there must be something to enable it.
in my vsts theres VOKATER STNTH (midi) and VoKATOR FX (audio),
i did that hard panning thing and the send and returns but nothing comes out still! just my left and right channels!
then i put the midi vocator in and no signal at all comes out, im gonna poo!

aaaah!
still havent managed to get it working in live, ni are normally brilliant and easy to use. theres a lot of routing crap that probably has to be done.
i want to use it live tomorrow, but cant figure it out.
glad i only got the demo.
if i can get it working if its good, i'll get a copy.
keep ya posted!

I used Vokator in Cubase for years and loved it.
Its one of the VSTs I had to remove from my VST collection when I switched to Live, though
Perhaps upgrading might have helped me... that I don't know.
But my problem with Vokator was CPU drain followed by crashing.
PS, yeah, you want to use the Vokator VSTi, not the Vokator f/x
and it doesn't require hard panning of Carrier/Modulator the way the MDA Vocoder and some others do...
Try dialing up one of vokators "vocal" presets... I know vokator can produce sounds with no external inputs... so maybe if you have one of those settings its not available as a side-chain input? I dunno... but its something to try.

(the latter says you should put Vokator on an audio track and route MIDI to it... another thing to try)

Wrong. Use the _FX version. Insert that on your audio track. On a MIDI track, choose the audio track that Vokator_FX is on as the output in the MIDI to menu. Choose A*B or B*A for your routing in Vokator. Play your keyboard. Done.laird wrote:PS, yeah, you want to use the Vokator VSTi, not the Vokator f/x
I just did it here as I was typing; it works fine.

God, I missed this for UB for a while!
i have Vokator...but the fecker will not sum channels for me... which is why i got it.
say i have 2 channels, and i put the vokator on one.. and a beat on the other... i should be able to spectrally sum the 2...but in the dropdown output menu on the Live6 Mixer, i can never select 'Vokator Input' ....
anyone experience this?? it works perfectly on my friends computer

1. Create 2 audio tracksstjohn wrote:how did u get it in the end Creator?? sounds like the same problem... i have no option to send an input track to Vokator, it only ever says 'TRack In'
how was your live gig? im in Dublin too
2. On track 1 insert vokator as "Vokator FX" (as someone else mentioned it must be the FX one not the instrument one)
3. On track 2 set the output to track 1 (the drop down below will say "Track In" not Vokator in)
4. Drop a clip in track 2 (or use a live input from track 2)
At this stage you should be getting audio through Vokator... If not make sure to check that either input A or B or Both are set to Live (in Vokator). Also the "Monitor" selector on track 1 must be either on "IN" or the track must be record armed if its on "AUTO"
Let us know how you go with that.

I got it!!!!
Thank you 3rdordertrauma, your post helped me get it. I might have been aiming for something slightly different though. Here it is.
Its very simple, but tricky. With the following instructions you can use an analog signal and a midi signal, such as a mic and a keyboard, to run the vocoder:
1. Create two tracks: "1 Audio" and "2 Midi"
2. Put "Vokator FX" on the Audio track. Input A should be Live, Input B should be Osc Synth. Set it to B*A.
3. Do not put any instruments on the Midi track: its volume should appear as a stack of dots, not volume bars. Set the "Midi to" to send to "1-Audio". The box below it should read "1-Vokator FX".
4. Set the input of 1 Audio to the microphone channel. And hit the red/arm button on both tracks. (press the apple button when clicking the second one, for the first one to stay on) It works when the monitors for both tracks are on Auto.
