hi,

I just bought live 3 (and upgraded to 3.0.2 or whatever the most recent version is) and i just can't get it to work properly or at all. actually.

i'm using logic 6 and protools on a digi 001 interface.

firstly, the digi001 is not recognised by live (even though i installed the coreaudio driver), so i cannot run it in standalone mode. this rather seems to be a problem with the coreaudio driver by digidesign, though.

so i tried running it in rewire mode in protools and logic. this works ok in protools for about 3-4 minutes and for about 10 - 30 seconds in logic. after some time, i usually hear some short cracklings and then everything remains quiet.
restarting host and slave app fixes it.

whats this? is it live? is it logic and protools? is it the digi 001 or its coreaudio driver? any experiences from other 001 users?

be sure to use a high sample buffersize for your playbackengine cause live NEEDS it bad...

there are a number of places, both internal and external (hardware) where your problems may occur.

first off, in the software programming point. have you upgraded protools to 6.2.2? and have you downloaded from digidesign the necessary updates for panther? second, have you downloaded the necessary updates for coreaudio in panther from apple? it's version 10.3.2 once you get to the midi audio utility you have to config your system so that your 001 is the main input fo your system and then depending on how you would like to monitor from live determine what the system output is gonna be, usually built-in audio.

then in live you have to go preferences and the in the audio/midi tab config the input device to be your digi 001. and you should also click the monitor through live option. if these options don't come up then you have to go back. at this junction something isn't right internally. if you do get to this option then move to your arranger window in live. select a channel and the you should be able to select your input on that selected channel, and digi 001 should become available. if you record-ready that channel youll see a circle around the main rec button in the command bar on top of the live interface, highlight that so it turns red and then press play to initiate recording. that should get the wheels rolling. if you get this far and it doesn't work, then the internals of your system work fine in live, however, it would seem that there is either and external hardware problem with your digi001 connection to your computer, or there is an internal protools problem.

one thing that might help is to back track and use protools as a rewire master and slave ableton live by opening protools first then opening live. don't worry about the rewire warning that is supposed to occur. if you can get that working then, i'm at a loss for what your particular problem might be.

just for your reference, i hit the same wall as you. but i'm doing what you're trying to accomplish. it took some time but it was well worth it and i rarely go into a pro tools session now because of the audio manipulation properties in live and protools in strictly for mixdown.

i'm recording spdif digital from vinyl to live via protools/coreaudio (panther) and it's clean, mixdown in protools with RTAS T-racks from IK multimedia and burn in toast after marking and tracking in Jam. it works.
