Hi,

As far as I know, the Keystation49 is a MIDI controller only, so it does not produce any sound. So the manual must talk about something totally different, unles I'm totally wrong!

I don;t have one, but maybe they are listing template maps for instruments? I know with novation controllers that is the case... they have templates for tons of vsti's, so if you owned the instrument listed you would be able to control it with your controller, allowing you to play it.

Maybe it refers to General Midi instruments?

That is the list of General MIDI instruments.

To play them you must:

1. purchase a GM-compatible synthesizer, such as a roland sound canvas
2. Hook up your controller to the GM synth
3. now when you send a program change message to the GM synth, it'll play the corresponding sound.

For instance, program change 5 will play a piano. It'll be a piano sound on any other GM-compatible synth, even if its not Roland's GM synth.

Your controller, sadly, makes no sounds of its own....

You can use it to control a GM-compatible VSTi in Live, however.
