OK I've sent messages to your Support twice about both of the issues below and have posted this in the General forum. However, I have never received a reponse from your Support and nothing useful came from the post. So I'm going try one more time here.

I do have one update on the Ableton as Rewire Host issue. Quite by accident I discovered that this works if I include another midi track that uses Native Instruments Absynth 4, however only if Absynth is turned on. That strong suggest to me that Absynth is generating some sort of sync signal that Reason is picking up.

Ableton as Rewire Host:

I have a midi track in Live routed to a Combinator patch in Reason. When I play the track all I ever hear is the first midi note that I play. I can play any note on the Combinator using the keyboard in the Note Editor or the hardware keyboard that I have connected as input to Live.

I have used this same Reason .rns file as a rewire slave to Cubase without any problem. I am using Live 6.0.7 and Reason 3.0.4.

Ableton as Rewire Client:

I am attempting to use Live as a Rewire client from Cubase 4.01 and route midi from 2 tracks in the host. I have 2 midi tracks set up in Live. Track 1 uses Impulse and Rewire Out to Mix L/R. Track 2 uses Simpler and Rewire Out to Mix 3/4. I have the corresponding routing set up in the host. As long as I use only Track 1 everything works fine. However, as soon as something actually starts playing from Track 2, I hear feedback, the audio meters peg at max, and the computer freezes up. I have to power the machine off and back on to recover.

I have read several times about people solving rewire problems by reinstalling Reason.

But _really_ uninstalling it first - like after the uninstall, searching the registry and manually removing any trace of the word "rewire" (although I would imagine not from other programs' folders??)

I don't know - just throwing that out there. And usual registry editing disclaimers, blah blah.

I've had exactly the same problems

I'm trying to pull my old Reason songs into Ableton by loading in the MIDI files and the playing Reason through Rewire. Hence being able to set up loops of original material and then mess around with them

The problem I have is that it seems to play the notes randomly. If for example I have four notes in a bar, it will (usually) play the first one, but hold it down throughout (ie. missing the note off signal). If it keeps looping, it occasionally plays one of the other notes (set up an arpeggio so I could figure out which notes were playing). In other words it seems to be only picking up information from the clip now and again, cathing the odd note on or the odd note off etc. The MIDI signals all jump up and down in Ableton across numerous MIDI tracks so it looks like it's reading the clips all right but if I look into Reason, I only see the note on indicators on the instruments when Ableton actually plays something, so it's defintely something going screwy with rewire.

What on earth could be causing this? Really gutted as I have a gig in two weeks and was hoping to use Ableton to spice up my Reason tunes.

Have you had any further remedies come your way? Did reinstalling work?

This sounds like a problem I get when I have multicore support activated in preferences. You guys using multicore machines? On mign, multicore for rewire is blanked out anyway. If I turn off multicore support rewire works again. But it sucks having to turn off multicore support.

That turned out to be the solution for me. Thanks for your help.

I sent a lot of info to Ableton support, and they didn't even bother to respond. Some support!

Now if I could just figure out the problem when I try to use more than one instrument when Live is running as a slave. Ableton support didn't respond to that one either.

No problem. I don't know about the other thing, I don't use Live like that. But I can tell you, Live is as flakey as all fuck right now. They need to pull their finger out. Do you get crashes from runtime errors when looped in the arrange page?

Nope. I do that quite a bit, but so far I haven't run into any problems.

FWIW I never did get Rewire working properly as either a master or a slave in Live 6.0.7, and Ableton tech support was totally unresponsive, so I finally gave up.

However, now that I've upgraded to 7.0.2 using Live as both master and slave works exactly as advertised.
