Anyone know what they use for that cut up sound?

Really into their sound of the label plus SebastiAn Ross Ross Ross and Mr Oizo sound.

It sounds like cut up records? being retriggered?

I've tried googling them but nothing, surely they must use Ableton? or maybe hardware?

Wanna get a sound like theirs, punchy and cut-up - would Ableton and Sampler be able to do it? or do they use Recycle and Reason?

Thanks

It might be everything you said. But who knows. Lately I have been loading up 80's songs in ableton and just doing small cuts to the audio and playing them in sampler, impluse, and doing manual edits in session view. It also helps to take samples from many many songs to get that weird cross mogination. This works good with samples that have many instruments playing at once or aka "hits". If you can get your hands on it try Native instruments Electronic Instruments 2, works very nice for getting the sound you are looking for...

p.s. ed banger fuckin' rocks!

Cutting up and/or microsampling?!
That's basically it.
For the 'punch', compression obviously does the trick, but 75% of the job is done by the samples you use.

Sketchy crappy thing I just recorded to give you an idea.
No compression, either.
Just a few chopped up samples and a drum kit, that's all you really need.
And Live can obviously manage all of this (actually even an oldschool tracker could).

wicked! that sounded good..

Was this samples of records, or smaple hits say from a sample cd?

Sounds like it could be done in ableton - but i thought i would need SAMPLER as his could load different sounds onto diff individual keys like
C3, D3, E3 etc and pitching them accordingly?

How did you do this track?

As in an earlier post i added, i can't seem to tune (to get in key) individual notes samples without altering the others???

Am i doing this the right way? or is there an easier way??

PS Anyone know what the Ed Banger artists actually use??

You can do this in any propper DAW. Just sample, chop and arrange.

Though I wouldn't, personally I hate that Nu-Rave sound. Just my ears ...

yeah my ears...

i like the vibe.. but the ears cant hack it...but its kinda funny to see that stuff spun live to a room full of druggies :D makes for some apeshit.

i think theres a sound somewhere in between the electro we're gettin overfed and the stuff comin out of justice/sebastian which is good.. but .. the ear (sc)rape is a bit high at the moment.

first compile a nice library of one shot samples..
tssshh, oomph, aaah, krrttt, djeeeah, flllssshhhh..

how you arrange the samples can be done in so many ways..

but basicly it all comes down to cutting the samples off real abrupt..
so you get the fast stabby vibe..

ooh, dje, kkr, ahh, bhe..

instead of

tssshh, oomph, aaah, krrttt, djeeeah, flllssshhhh..
