Just posted two new tracks at www.projectopus.com/teachone

Check out "Acoustic Jungle (Hungry Tree Mix)" and "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde" they are both new tracks that feature the acoustic/electric guitar of Ed Ragonnet... We're workin on putin together a full length lp sometime before the end of summer, and setting it up to be a performance piece, so we would really like feedback positive and otherwise.

On the Dr Jekykll track the acoustic is too caustic and tinny for me. Too high in the mix and the bubble-synth over shadows the tracks. You need to reduce the threshold in the mix compression a little as there appears to be dips and rises in volume... well very slightly..

Harmony guitars. Well cool. Maybe could do some panning here and spread it out a bit but its fine.

As a sidenote I've read Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde far too many times to count. Great book.

Edit just listening to the into riffs on the other track. Yeah like it. Bass is great, guitar sounds like its in the perfect position. Very Tommorow Never Knows in a way. The scratchy string synth that comes in midway is a bit off, doesnt suit the track, and certainly doesnt feel right in the far right. Cool sound, perhaps too dark for this track.

Thanks for the feedback downfader... will definately take that into consideration on future edits.... Do you think the acoustic being to caustic is a mastering thing or his playing?? I'm just learning to master, and well, this is definately new to me as far as the guitar is concerned. I like the idea of panning the harmony guitars... I'll definately be trying that as soon as I figure out how to do that.... Again thanks for the feedback... this is exactly what I was looking for when I posted here.

Your friends playing is really sweet, I think the main problem was the tonal balance of the guitar on Hyde. There was too much high end and not enough mids/bass.

When I master (obviously everyone does this differently which is why its great) I tend to have a compressor over the main outs in live. Set the ratio down low, max 2:1 and just bring down the threshold until it sounds right. I listen to the whole track through to make sure theres no undue pumping or squashing/ducking.

If the harmony guitars are the result of an fx box/pluggin then you can widen the stereo field with a fast single or double repeat delay/echo. A room reverb or chorus effect can also work

Not exactly sure what you mean by this, but I think I get what your saying overall... Right now I'm using a side eq compressor (One of the compressor II's in Live 6.0) and I also used and eq 8 to bring the high end up a bit... I guess I brought it up too much, but that might be taste.... I'm gonna talk to him about it.... As far as the harmony goes, he actually played all four layers of it.... I agree... He's a talented dude... I'm lucky to be workin with him.

True enough... thanks again man.... I've got a mix of all my tracks + his that should show up on my site by friday if not sooner that don't have these changes yet, but I will be making some adjustments based on your critique.... Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it....
