I'm on this kick where I want to put the movies own on to a hard drive. It's good for travel. Can anybody recommend a program for Mac that will make the convertion? I just want the movies start to finish and of course compressed. I don't need menus, extras, or the ablity pick scenes.
Thanks!

I downloaded and tried it but it only converts the video for like the first 2 minutes and then stops. Am I doing something weird? I didn't really adjust any of the settings and it looks like it is set up to combile the whole movie into one file.

You probably ripped the first 2 second intro chapter.
You'll have to play around with it a bit, as it cant know by itself what you want to do.

i tried another DVD and it seems to be working fine. I checked out their message board too and it seems pretty active which is odd for such a basic program. But I guess because it's free and the current version is beta then there is going to be all kinds of bugs and issues. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Not free, but only US$ 23.32 and totally awesome, is Visual Hub:

It's a real "swiss army knife" of video converters for OS X. It DOES NOT do the initial rip from DVD to a VIDEO_TS, but it does everything after that point.
For ripping a DVD to VIDEO_TS, you want Mac The Ripper, which is available via the usual places online. There are different versions for Intel and PowerPC macs.
