Hi,

I'm in the final stages of deciding to buy a MacBook Pro, and all that's really holding me back is compatibility. My band uses a Nord Lead 2, and we've been throwing about ideas using Synth1 patches, as we find it's reasonable as a clone. Unfortunately I can only find Windows binaries for it, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a similar type of plug-in (preferably free as about 3 of us need copies) that would do a similar representation of the NL2 but will work on the Mac (and on the PC so the other guys can use it too!)

BTW - the reason for the NL2 clone is because we use it live and prefer to create sounds that we can reproduce easily on-stage. I actually have a Virus Classic as well, so if there's any plugins that can do a good Virus sound I'd be interested to hear.

Automat is mac only, so won't work for what mkelly wants.

Zebra2, not free though.

my bad - misread the question. sorry. to add to what tarekith said - can you get hold of the the computer music magazine free version of zebra 2?

Already got it and had been using it - I just wasn't finding it anywhere near as close to a NL2 as Synth1, but maybe I just need to start from scratch with it. Personally I think it's too powerful and as a result harder to translate the patches to the real world.

Are there any good patch banks for the ZebraCM - the stuff that came with it was a bit "meh".

I use and absolutely love Synth1 on PC. I had considered the move to Mac but this was definitely one of my biggest concerns.

You may have to go for a synth that is different on Mac. Zebra2 is vastly different from Synth1, the saturation, the filters .etc. It's still great, but certainly different. Also the unison on it isn't as powerful as Synth1.

Even if Oatmeal worked on Mac, it is again, substantially different to Synth1. I'm just waiting for an important bug to be fixed in Oatmeal and then it's getting added to my VST folder, absolutely awesome plugin.

All that comes to mind is the Korg stuff, might be worth checkin out. Rob Papen stuff lacks the awesome unison and saturation.
