Live 6 Linplug crash serial re-enter

Hi all
I'm a bit new here and it pains me to have my first post as a problem but....
I've just installed my tasty new ableton 6.0.7 having rested my live 4 for some time, and it seems that it's one serious piece of kit. BUT I've just tried to use the free linplug alpha VST plugin and I got the ol' blue screen o' death. I tried a second time with the same result, and on booting up again Live has asked me again for my serial number, despite having already registered it.
pattern is: drag-and-drop plugin, plugin appears, computer freezes, blue screen
on reboot and loading Live 6 an error message like "something or other was expected but got something else" (sorry to be vague but I couldn't get this message again).
then it asks for my serial
I tried the restart technique but goes straight for my serial without repeating the above message
I'm sure verifying my copy again won't be a problem but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and whether it's a recurring theme???
On a positive note I did manage to use the free alpha and other plugins on a previous project without any problems and all the Live features seemed to be working perfectly.
