Did Ableton 6 kill my soundcard?

My laptop soundcard/ and my m-audio sonica outboard both started to go fuzzy after I installed ableton live 6. (I did an immediate upgrade from 4 without using it...if 4 is better let me know)
My line-in on the laptop is dead now, and Dell is replacing the motherboard on warranty. Sonica is unstable, and is giving me okay sound on other apps but Ableton makes it sound like a transistor radio under a rug.
I have tried dx and asio both.
The line-in signal was from a fostex mixer, which has worked great in audacity, sound forge, fruityloops, and a dozen other apps. As soon as I installed Ableton, it started to degrade and now is seriously dead. Output sucks from both laptop out and Sonica out. Sometimes when I restart Live with no set and build one from scratch, I can get a few minutes of okay sound out on audio, but midi sound out is still hosed.
I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling all sound drivers. Sound-in tests dead at the boot-up diagnostic level.
This just occurred since I installed Live 6 on June 30.
Anyone else have this problem or should I write it off as a "coincidence"?
