[OT] question to london forum members

Post by cherry-k » Mon Jul 23, 2007 7:25 pm

Hey there London-abletonians,

I have a gig with one of my bands in birmingham on 26th of august and plan to spend the night from friday 24th to saturday 25th in london.
Could somebody please recommend a cheap and good hotel somewhere around the best music shops (vintage-guitars???) in London?
And maybe a concert suggestion for Friday night, or maybe having a beer together?

thanks in advance and all the best

michael
cheers, michael

Denmark Street (nr. Covent Garden) is a good choice for guitar shops (and there's even a couple of vintage specialist shops too) but the only downside of actually staying in central London itself is that it's quite pricey! One of the nearest hotels to Denmark Street to my knowledge is:

but I don't think it's the cheapest you'll find (neither is it the most expensive).

Hope that helps!

Definitely Denmark Street for any kind of music gear. There are more than half a dozen music shops on one very short street. It's just off Charing Cross Road (nearest tube, Tottenham Court Road).

There are a few more music shops that are in spitting distance too: Rock Stop - on Charing Cross Road, just north of Denmark Street; Soho Soundhouse - on Charing Cross Road, just south of Denmark Steet (upstairs from Turnkey); Macari's - on Charing Cross Road, just a little bit further south; Sound Control - downstairs from the Virgin Megastore at Tottenham Court Road tube station (junction of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street); Chappell's - a few streets west of Charing Cross Road (Wardour Street, I think).

If you want cheap accommodation nearby, you could consider the Oxford Street Youth Hostel (actually on Noel Street).

Alternatively, there are a few small and not too expensive hotels on Gower Street (I can't name any specific ones, so you'll have to Google them). Otherwise, I think you're going to have to look further out, or pay more...

It ain't pretty but it will take you 20 min to get Oxford Circus and another 5 min to Tottenham Ct road and Denmark St.
It's cheap and I've had friends who stayed there and they were happy.

Stay in an easyhotel!! as long as you haven't got much stuff.

Anywhere in central london you are can easily get to Denmark Street on the tube.
