MIDI mapping to currently selected channel - possible?

hello live-heads.

fairly new here, but i've had a search on here and on google but i can't find anything related to this... to be honest, i don't quite know what to search for.

so, i'm wondering if someone can tell me if it's possible to map a midi control or key on the keyboard to control an aspect of the *currently selected* channel in ableton?

when you're in session view, there are the white row and column selectors to show which row and column are selected. i'm wanting to map a midi control (knob) to let's say, send A of the currently selected channel. so if i'm on 1, it changes send A for 1, if i'm on 2, it changes the send value for send A on channel 2, etc.

is this possible in any way? i would assume it would need some sort of custom scripting (i've read a little about live using python)?

can anyone tell me if there is anyway to make something like this happen?

thanks in advance,
dwight.
