Sounds to me like your preferences.cfg got corrupted.

Turn on "show hidden files and folders" in your Windows view menu, and go to

Documents and Settings/*your user account*/Application data/Ableton/*your version of Live*/Preferences

and delete the preferences.cfg. Reboot, and start Live. Reset your plugin folder in Live's preferences.

Also, with any NI app, it's important to run it in standalone at least once after the initial install or an update before you try to use it as a plugin. Otherwise, the chances are the plugin won't initialize correctly.

yep that solved that problem.

i just updated to absynth 4.02 and i've just relised another problem - not sure if this was here before too.

absynth wont play the first note in a clip if the note is exactly on the start of the clip. if i move it forward just a little bit it works fine.

i dont know if this is an ableotn thing or an abynth thing. maybe theres some setting i have wrong.

I've heard of that one before, and with other NI apps as well. Some people have it, and some don't. I'll ask Brian and some other people over at NI about it.

I have Massive and FM8 and neither of them needed to run stand alone (I have never run either stand alone and downloaded bugfixes no probs) , so maybe this fix is more localized to Absynth? Absynth 4 has been mentioned a few times on this forum as being buggy in Live.

You've been lucky then. In my experience, every NI product should be run in standalone after the original install or after an update, and before trying to use it as a plugin. In most caes, if you don't do so, either 1) your plugin won't initialize correctly, or 2) not be able to find the database (especially true with the three that have been mentioned here). And, if they run, the CPU usage is ridiculous.

I can only speak from experience and mine has been OK - touch wood and pray that nothing develops because NI have just about the worst reputation for customer service and fixing problems right now.

4.01 doesn't get the damn missing first note bug afaik, but if you check in the 4.02 bugfixes list you will find that some big ones got fixed like:

Morph wave edits are being reset when making more than one morph wave

Crash loading wave in the wave editor

Can't select params... with LFO morph waves

Crashes when using expand to rhythm

So now what to do, that is the question. For many reasons you prolly already know, waiting for NI to fix it is not a valid anwser.

but id rather get all those bugs in 4.01 then miss the first note of a loop.

funny i decided to buy the thing. its no more reliable than the cracked version i was using. that'll learn me.

I don't know about the cracked version of absynth, the only thing I know is NI don't need to be cracked to be buggy as hell. I have no troubles with the fact that bugs can appear in a software but damn FIX IT !!!!

I really don't understand why Ni is not doing a public beta test phase before releasing a final version.

In fact i'm starting to wonder why I still being a NI customer. I was about to buy the komplete but the absynth 4.02 update convince me to do not.

ok now this problem has popped up again but this time its really pissing me off in a different way.

i deleted my preferences.cfg file, and absynth 4 was found in the vst dir. i can succesfuly drop it into a live track. however, when i load up my template file, the instances of absynth that were in there still claim the vst is missing!
i also have problems when i try to quit. ableton live just freezes.

does anyone know whats going on here?

thanks for any help.

what version of absynth do you use ?

I know peeps with that kind of probs in earlier versions.

Now since they updated, they still have probs ( it's NI m8 :) but not of that kind.

Also, if you're not a legit user ( like tons of absynth users with that kind of problems), look no further.

Myself, I found the last version to be stable in live except for the « first midi note skip in ableton bug » and some modulation weirdness. These 2 krapy bug still really pissing me off but I have to admit that absynth since the last update behave well in most sessions.
