Give me a set of surround speakers, so I can automate things going around me!

I work in quad, mixing to four speakers, so surround support of quad, 5.1, etc. will be huge.
Want to see a little "joystick" or grid option for every channel, with corresponding routing.
so... BUMP!

I second the comment I wrote a year ago. The urge to make music in surround has only grown bigger.

and me too!
the problem (for ableton) is that the longer they dont support it
the more time we spend in other apps (protools, logic et al)
experimenting & learning about 5.1..
(& for that reason i still can't consider LIVE a mixing environment)
& you know what, for all that video of Robert Henke that surfaced
of him playing in my home country & mouthing off about how
sometimes 'we' dont even 'need' 16bit audio or vocoders or whatever,
that gig was specifically advertised as a surround concert/performance...
methink its time for an official ableton contribution to this thread?
& dont tell me its rocket science, cos the science is all around us!

Yeah. There are other programs with surround, but getting to know a new program is too awkward and useless for me now. If they add this one feature to v8, I'm upgrading.

Exactly.
Live is so appropriate for what I do. That's why I purchased it back in 2002, & have paid for every upgrade since. All it needs are a few tweaks & I'll be very satisfied.

tee hee
i bet the ablertons just laughed themselves silly
i dont mean any disrespect to you (esp with such a great name)
but i will quote you that most human trait:
'familiarity breeds contempt'
once you have what you need, very soon you will want/need more
i'm prepared to bet money! only euros or yen tho...
(we all know us$ wont be worth anything soon)
but i totally agree
& if I do a quick survey, lets see; its only ableton LIVE
& ProTools LE that DONT natively support surround
& thats a brush i am sure they dont aim to be tarred with?

Well, you got a point there! The more you use the new tools, the more you see the next wave of what's needed just on the horizon.
But, seriously, there are really just a few primary tweaks that would have me rolling on the floor with glee should they ever appear. Plus, I'm not greedy!
I figure that surround support is inevitable, I mean what year are we living in again?
I just hope they support a simple quad surround, as well as the more common surround formats like 5.1.

Been composing in 4+ channel sound for a while now and I can't imagine going back! I'd love to see full support for ambisonic encoding, decoding and playback too.
