HELP -- only inputs 1&2 on the front of the 828 work!!!

I'm having a major issue. I just bought a MOTU 828 mkII, installed it and then tried to mic some drums. I used the two front low-z inputs and the #3 1/4 input jack on the back of the unit. With a dead dynamic mic it registered nothing which was expected but then I ran the mic through a preamp before it went to analog input #3 and it's not coming through either. I enabled it in Ableton and I can see the VU on the 828 bouncing so I think the sound is getting through the 828 but it's not showing up in Ableton at all. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. I've used an 828 in a studio many times and would plug all kinds of line level sources into the rear inputs and all I had to do in Ableton was make sure those inputs were enabled. I'm seeing nothing on the Ableton level meter. Does anyone know if I'm missing a setup step here?

Mic -->Preamp-->input #3 on the 828 --->Ableton live with track armed and input 3 mono enabled.

I'm no expert but this seems pretty cut and dry.

Additionally the headphone jack on the 828 is not playing any sound. I have it at full volume and a pair of headphones plugged into the front phones jack. I'm not sure if this could be another symptom of the problem.

Hi,

please try this: Open Live Preferences:Audio and click on Input Configuration. Enable ALL inputs. Close Preferences.

Then while getting a signal into your Motu, click on the Ext. In 1-2 in your audio track to see all available inputs. Check if you get a level meter on any of the inputs.

AFAIK some Motu drivers could sort your Inputs differently, meaning that Digital In 1-2 = 1-2, Analog In 1-2 = 3-4, Analog In 3-4 = 5-6 and so on.

Best,
Daniel

Thanks

Thanks Daniel. I should have mentioned that I tried that already. The only two meters that are active are inputs 1 and 2 which are the two front inputs on the 828. The funny thing is that I used another identical 828 mkII at a studio on my same laptop about a month ago and it worked beautifully. It was actually set properly, meaning that input 3 on the 828 matched with input 3 in Ableton and so on. I'm completely confused now. I guess I'll have to contact MOTU.
