i searched for this but couldnt find anything on it


i have 2 folders for my vst plugs and inst's
but i an only see half, i need to add another directory..
one is c:/program files/vst plugins and c:/program files/ stienburg/ vst

if you follow what im saying.. i would really love to do this is there any way of adding another directory??

Some applications ask where your plug-ins are located,
some assume they are at certain fixed locations, some
might use a registry setting to find it.

If you have plug-ins in two places you did something wrong
and should place them in one spot.

The windows registry location for this spot is at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Vst\VstPluginsPath

In Live you can specify this location in its options or preferences
for folders.

I hope this general answer helps.

Live only recognizes one VST plugin folder. Copy (don't move) the .dlls from one of them into the other, and have Live use the folder that has all the .dlls.

thanks i was thinking of, copying them to the other directory but i wasnt sure if it would work..

i installed a bunch i dunno why to my stienburg location. cal me stupid... lol

The easiest way to do this is using shortcuts. Select all of the .dll files in your 2nd vst folder, right click and select make shortcut. Now copy all the shortcut files into your 1rst vst folder.

A cool trick I use is creating a bunch of different vst categories.

Just make a new folder entitled VST Categories.
Within that folder, create different folders by categories.

I basically split them up by effect or general use:
Drums,
Synth,
Compressors,
Reverbs,
ect. ect.

Then I go to my main VST folder and create shortcuts for all the .dll files. I then drop those .dll's into their respective category folders.

Finally, go into Live's options and select VST categories as your VST folder.

Now, in Live's VST browser everything will be nice and organized.

This is a major time saver if you've downloaded as many free vst effects and synths as I have.
