Don't know how to solve this, but I do know this...
I also use 1814 (not entirely on purpose) and had nothing but problems similar to this since the start.
Some seemed very simple, some didn't.
Some time everyhing worked fine othertimes nothing or just some stuff would work.
But nothing I did would fix anything til I replaced my firewire card.
Then things got better and most of the problems went away.

Sudden loss of the following:
all front panel controls/
task bar control panel/
assignments of A-B switch/
assignments of level controller/
all routings (pretty bad when sending a headphone mix)/
all sound/
all contact with the PC/
any audio quality (suddenly turning mad crunchy out of the blue and stayin that way til rebooted once or twice).
etc
etc
etc
etc...

Since replacing the card, the only thing still not working is the A-B switch although I haven't tried any internal routings (or anything) in the taskbar control panel yet.

thats wierd, i dont have any of those issues.
just that i cant adat route to different lines....

i only got the firewire 1814 because of protools. and its an adat out interface.

also is it bad to turn off a fw interfce while plugged in?
