hey guys for some reason i tried to open my live this morning and it gets to the scan vst part and then just goes away and oesnt open at all .. wondering if anyone can help me?

There can be two reasons for that: either one of the plugins is causing trouble, and in that case, you'd have to move all of the plugins to a temporary folder, restart Live. If all goes fine, close Live and move back a few plugins to the right folder, then restart Live. Repeat these three last steps, until you find out which plugin is causing trouble.
Second option, is that you've set your plugin folder to the wrong folder, like your entire C: drive, if you're on PC. In that case, you'd have to delete the Preferences file, restart Live, and set your Preferences again. And of course set the VST folder to the right folder. The Preferences file is located there:
* Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live x.xx\Preferences
* Mac OS X: /Library/Preferences/Ableton
